Coume des Lloups weiss (orange) 75cl 2010 - Domaine Gauby

Native of Grenache Gris on a schistous site rich in iron not far from Coume Gineste; vinified in cement and aged in demi-muid Coume del Lloups 2010 displays, says Lionel Gauby, "the true color of Grenache Gris", namely a pale partridge eye, enhanced both by maceration on the skin and minimally sulfur, for something it is now fashionable to call an "orange wine". The best plots facing north of this site formed the current bottle, while the rest went to the Vieilles Vignes of this vintage. The musky floral scent, citrus oils and Ceylon tea in the nose anticipate the nuanced complexity of a bright, polished wine, rich in extracts of materials, but imbued with a remarkable sense of power and delicacy . The sense of mineral and classic impact of Grenache Gris is subtle but persistent and invigorating. It will be fascinating to watch, but I will not predict for how long. The 2010 is extremely promising.
